
Bulls Beat IceRays 6-2 for 152nd Win in Franchise History

AMARILLO, TX - In a short period of time the Amarillo Bulls have become one of the most successful franchises in Amarillo Hockey History.
The Bulls capped off a successful heritage weekend by winning their 152 regular season game beating the Corpus Christi IceRays 6-2 at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.
It was the Bulls 24th win of the season and it pushed them four points up on their next closest pursuer the Topeka RoadRunners for first place in the South Division. In the race for the overall lead, the Bulls have a one point cushion over second place Port Huron and two ahead of third place Fairbanks.
Cody Gylling scored twice for Amarillo, while Timmy Moore, Mike Davis, Brady Ferguson and Kyle Gattelaro had the single tallies. Brett Szajner notched two assists. Paul Berrafato earned the win in goal.
The difference in the game was the second period where the Bulls scored twice in a span of 2:05 including a shorthanded marker by Brady Ferguson.
It was a great start to the game for the Amarillo Bulls with two goals in the first 15 minutes. Tim Moore gave the Bulls a 1-0 advantage when his shot beat Ben Myers, making his first start since his suspension. Brett Szajner and Ryan Stevens got assists on the play. Seven minutes later, Cody Gylling scored a power play goal on a great rush up the ice from Brett Szajner. Just two minutes after that, the IceRays got on the board with a goal off a face-off win. The Amarillo Bulls outshot the IceRays 13-6.
The second period was a wild one with many altercations after the whistle and several fights. It took nearly an hour to play it. Mike Davis extended the Bulls lead to 3-1 when he scored on a big shot from inside the blue line from Brendan Vetter and Roman Ammirato. Just over two minutes later, the Bulls took a 4-1 advantage with their third shorthanded goal of the season. Brady Ferguson scored from the high slot area from Kyle Gattelaro. The Bulls outshot the IceRays 14-12 in the period.
The IceRays closed the gap to 4-2 with a power play goal early in the third period. But soon after that, the Bulls went to work with two goals to round out the scoring. Cody Gylling notched his second from Mitchell Vanderburg and Joe Grabowski. In the final three minutes, Kyle Gattelaro scored on a tip in front of the net from Brady Ferguson. Each team had 13 shots in the third period.
The Amarillo Bulls had the shot advantage at the end of the game 40-31. There were 13 total power plays between the two teams with each scoring once.
It's a short time off for the Amarillo Bulls as are back in action on Tuesday night against the Odessa Jackalopes at a special start time of 6 pm. That game was the one rescheduled due to the storm back in December. It's two for Tuesday with a buy one get one free, and there will also be $1 hotdogs.
