STATS PACK:
WHAT A MONTH!: The Amarillo Bulls closed out the month of December with a terrific mark of 6-0-1. The team has garnered at least one point in their last seven games. The only blemish in the month was an overtime loss in New Mexico. Goaltenders Steve Bolton and Nikifor Szczerba each had three victories, while Cody Freeman and Zack Smoot each had nine points. All but two Bulls' players registered at least one point.
ROAD WARRIORS: Despite having to play a large portion of the first half of the schedule on the road, the Bulls haven't let that stop them. The team has posted a total of nine victories away from home, and have picked up at least one point in their last six road games. Cody Freeman leads the Bulls with seven goals and eight assists for 15 points. Forward Zack Smoot has eight goals. Freeman and defenseman Dan McDougall are a combined plus 20 away from home.
NUMBER CRUNCHING: Defenseman Karl Beckman is among the leaders in plus-minus in the North American Hockey League. He ranks third behind two players from the Motor City Metal Jackets. The Amarillo Bulls and the Topeka RoadRunners have had something in common recently. The two teams have the same goals for and goals against numbers. Those stats didn't change at all following each club's 3-2 win over the weekend.
WEEK IN REVIEW:
AMARILLO BULLS 7 - WICHITA FALLS 3: Michael Erickson scored twice and three other players each had two points as the Amarillo Bulls dumped the Wichita Falls Wildcats 7-3. Kyle Sucher, Zack Smoot and Dan Sherer each notched a goal and an assist in the contest. Mitch Rogge and Matt Johnson also had goals in the contest and goaltender Steve Bolton picked up his first win on home ice. Amarillo raced out to a 3-0 first period lead and never looked back.
AMARILLO BULLS 3 - TOPEKA ROADRUNNERS 2: Three goals in the first 40 minutes of hockey and then outstanding goaltending by Nikifor Szczerba the rest of the way propelled the Amarillo Bulls past the Topeka RoadRunners 3-2 on New Years' Eve. Colton Warner, Dan Sherer and Zack Smoot earned the goals for the Bulls. Amarillo had a 2-0 lead before the game was nine minutes old.
TOPEKA ROADRUNNERS 3 - AMARILLO BULLS 2 (SHOOTOUT): The Bulls and the RoadRunners played another exciting game to open up 2011 and it took a shootout before Topeka prevailed 3-2. Brooks Behling fired the Bulls' goals in the opening period to give his team the lead 2-1. The RoadRunners tied the game up late in the second period and then outscored the Bulls in the shootout to win the game.
