Bulls Announce Advanced Skating Development Program

September 2, 2009 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Belleville Bulls News Release

Belleville Sports and Entertainment, the company that owns the Belleville Bulls Hockey Club, will further extend its brand and hockey school business by launching a new program aimed at helping players of all levels advance the skating skills that are now so fundamental to hockey success. The company announced the launch of the Belleville Bulls Skating Advance program, a developing activity that will be piloted by Belleville Bulls Assistant Coach Jake Grimes.

The goal of the Belleville Bulls Skating Advance program is to see hockey players of all ages and both genders advance their skating skills. "We have a clear mission" commented Coach Grimes, who is also the Head Coach of the Ontario Under 17 team. "That mandate is to provide a program that will supplement previous skating development already provided to our clients. Our clinics will be structured to advance each participants skating skill to a higher level. We will employ the techniques that have been successful in helping our OHL players continue to progress when joining our program.

"Our organization has recently committed itself to expanding our business in hockey development. We have just completed our most successful summer hockey school ever and recently announced the launch and details of the Belleville Bulls Goaltending Academy. The Belleville Bulls Skating Advance Program will also get its start this fall. We expect the program to develop into a significant and more broadly delivered business in skating skill development as the months and years progress." said Gord Simmonds, Bulls' majority owner and operating partner. "With Coach Grimes at the helm, we have an experienced instructor that will develop a successful program. We will build and draw on a team of local and outside specialists that can help deliver the Belleville Bulls brand of skating skill advancement across the region. Our success will be measured by clients of our program enjoying the benefits of their skating skill improvements as they participate in the program."

"Skating is becoming more and more critical to on ice performance and being able to compete for positions as a player progresses through the various stages of hockey development" explained Grimes, entering his 6th season as the Bulls' Assistant Coach. "Our Belleville Bulls Skating Advance program will start with focused sessions to be held on school professional development or school vacation days this season. Sessions will be categorized by age or development stage with registrations on a first come, first serve basis. It is not a program designed for learning to skate but aims to provide skaters with the tool set to continue to advance and develop their skating skills. We expect that various Bulls' players will be involved to help support the instruction in these sessions and that will allow us to provide a strong ratio of on ice help so skaters receive more focused attention"

Further details of the Belleville Bulls Skating Advance program will be posted soon on the Bulls website. Please check the site for regular updates to this and other Belleville Bulls Hockey Development activities.
