Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Mark Hicks has been named to the league's team of Officiating Managers beginning with the upcoming 2009-10 season.

Hicks, a native of LaSalle, ON, spent 22 years as an OHL official including 13 as a referee. He worked in five OHL Championship Finals, three All-Star Games, and two Memorial Cup Championships during his career before retiring from the ice at the end of the 2008-09 campaign.

"I am very pleased to welcome Mark Hicks to his new role as Officiating Manager" said the OHL's Director of Officiating Conrad Haché. "Mark had a great career officiating in this league and I am happy he has decided to stay involved in hockey. I am confident that his experiences in this league will benefit the development of our officiating team."

Hicks joins a team of six other Officiating Managers including Ken Bodendistel, Ken Cox, Jim Lever, David Lynch, Ken Miller, and Bill Prisniak. Officiating Managers are responsible for on-ice supervisions and development of the officiating team.

"I am excited about becoming an Officiating Manager" said Hicks. "I look forward to working with our great team and passing on what I have learned in my many years as an official in the OHL."

The OHL recently held its annual Officiating Camp August 21-22 with over 90 officials participating in various on-ice sessions and off-ice seminars in preparation for the 2009-10 season.

The 2009-10 OHL regular season begins on Thursday September 17, 2009, with four games including the defending OHL and Memorial Cup Champions the Windsor Spitfires hosting the Plymouth Whalers.
