Belleville Bulls News Release
BELLEVILLE, ON - With the Ontario Hockey League's trade window re-opened, the Belleville Bulls were quick to pull the trigger on two significant deals that see them grow physically stronger both up front and on the back end.
Bulls Head Coach and General Manager George Burnett announced early Tuesday that the team has acquired 6 foot 4, 215 pound defenceman Brady Austin from the Erie Otters. Austin, the Otters' second round pick in 2009 is a native of Bobcaygeon and a graduate of the Central Ontario Wolves Minor Midget program. Austin was a teammate of current Bulls forward Scott Simmonds during the 2008-09 season.
In 123 career OHL games, Austin has recorded 6 goals along with 22 assists to go with a career +15 plus/minus rating.
"Brady is going to bring a physical presence to our blueline," said Burnett following the trade. "This is a guy who will make us a lot tougher to play against."
In return, the Bulls have dealt 18 year-old goaltender Tyson Teichmann to Erie. The Belleville native split time with Malcolm Subban in 2010 and went 11-26-0-2 in 42 games. With Teichmann moving to the Flagship City, Burnett states that he was reluctant to make the deal. "This was a difficult move for us as a management team," said the longtime OHL Head Coach. "I'm still a firm believer that Tyson will be in the elite class of goaltenders in this league. We were obviously in a position where we had two outstanding young netminders and we had to make a decision. We in Belleville wish nothing but the best for Tyson in his transition to a new club."
Austin becomes the second new defenceman into the Bulls' fold for the upcoming season after overaged blueliner Simon Gronvaldt was acquired earlier this summer from the Niagara IceDogs.
