Bullpen Strong in Win over Baysox

The SeaWolves belted out nine runs on 14 hits on Wednesday night as they took down the Bowie Baysox 9-4 at Prince George's Stadium. The win snapped Erie's seven-game losing streak to Bowie.

The Baysox built an early 3-0 lead on 'Wolves starter Jared Wesson. In the first, Jonathan Schoop walked and was doubled home by Ty Kelly. In the second, Caleb Joseph led off with a solo home run for a two-run lead. Josh Barfield followed the home run with a walk and he scored on a two-out Schoop double.

The 'Wolves took their first lead in the top of the fourth off of Bowie starter Mike Wright. Niuman Romero and Nick Castellanos led off with back-to-back singles. Jordan Lennerton doubled home Romero making it 3-1. Avisail Garcia followed and belted a three-run home run over the wall in left for a 4-3 Erie lead.

The Baysox promptly tied the game in the last of the fourth. Joseph and Barfield each walked and Jai Miller singled home Joseph tying the game at 4-4.

Wesson finished the day with a no-decision allowing four runs on five hits with four walks and six strikeouts in five innings.

Erie regained the lead in the seventh against reliever Jason Gurka. Brandon Douglas led off with a double and he moved into scoring position on a James McCann knock. Jamie Johnson walked to load the bases for Romero who lifted a sacrifice fly to right, plating Douglas for a 5-4 lead.

Erie would blow the game open in the eighth. Lennerton led off with his league-leading 76th walk and Daniel Fields singled to put two on. Rawley Bishop sent a ground ball to second and an error by Buck Britton allowed all three to reach safely, loading the bases. Douglas followed with a double off the left field wall scoring a pair for a 7-4 lead. McCann and Johnson each followed with RBI singles making it a 9-4 game.

Relievers David Kopp (1-1) and Kelvin De La Cruz held the Baysox without a hit over the final four innings of the game to lock down the Erie win.

Erie goes for the series split on Thursday night at Prince George's Stadium at 7:05 p.m. RHP Patrick Cooper (3-9, 4.78 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Eddie Gamboa (7-4, 3.03 ERA).
