Bullpen Solid in Cutters Exhibition Game Victory

May 22, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Haven County Cutters News Release

An hour long rain delay could do nothing to stop the New Haven County Cutters from getting off to a fast start in their 4-2 exhibition game victory against the Worcester Tornadoes at Yale Field on Sunday.

The Cutters quickly established a lead when Chas Terni and Darren Ciraco, who reached on back-to-back singles, were driven in by an opposite field double from the newest Cutter, Bill Peavey. Keith Stegbauer added to the lead by knocking in Peavey with a single in a bases loaded situation later in the inning.

Peavey added another run on the scoreboard in the fifth with an opposite field solo home run. He finished the day with two hits and three runs batted in with Terni also finishing with two hits.

The four runs would be all the team needed as each pitcher Manager Mike Church sent out to the mound was able to shut down the Tornadoes without much difficulty. Starter Nick Maness pitched a solid two and one third innings, giving up one unearned run and showing off a sizzling fastball. Southpaw Ryan Bonesio, who figures to be in the starting rotation with Maness, came in during the third inning and pitched out of a slight jam.

Pitchers Tim Keinath, Sean Kramer, Courtney Hall, Andy Weimer, and Jarrett Stawarz all pitched in the game. Hall struck out the side in his inning of work and Stawarz picked up the final three outs for the Cutters.

The win levels the Cutters preseason schedule to 1-1. The season opens on Thursday, May 26 when the team travels to Canada to take on Les Capitales of Quebec.
