Bulldogs sign two defencemen to AHL contracts

The Hamilton Bulldogs announced today the signing of defencemen Jon Gleed and Alexandre Dulac-Lemelin to American Hockey League contracts. As per club policy, financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Selected by the Canadiens in the 7th round (212th overall) in the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Jon Gleed, 22, recently completed his fourth season at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Gleed, a right-handed shooting, 6'2', 200 pound native of Milton, Ontario, played in a total of 98 games for the Big Red from 2002-2006, and registered five goals, 16 assists, 21 points, and 97 penalty minutes.

Alexandre Dulac-Lemelin, the Canadiens 9th round (278th overall) choice in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft just completed his third season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. A 20 year-old native of Lévis, Quebec, the 6'4", 193 pound Dulac-Lemelin played three seasons with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar from 2003-2006, before he was acquired on December 19th, 2005 by the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, where he finished his junior career. During his three seasons in the QMJHL, the left-handed shooting defenceman tallied 18 goals and 43 assists for 61 points, while accumulating 159 minutes in penalties in 164 games.

In operation since 1936, the American Hockey League is the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. Over 80 percent of NHL players are AHL graduates, and more than 350 AHL players were recalled to the NHL during the 2005-2006 season alone.
