Bulldogs Begin Round 2 This Week

The Hamilton Bulldogs (American Hockey League affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) will move on to the second round of the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs after defeating the Oklahoma City Barons (American Hockey League affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers) 4-2 in their best-of-seven-series. They will either battle the Manitoba Moose (American Hockey League affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks) or the Lake Erie Monsters (American Hockey League affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche) in the North Division Final. Game 1 will be Thursday, April 28th at 7:30 p.m., and Game 2 will be Sunday, May 1st at 4:00 p.m., both at Copps Coliseum.

This past week, the Bulldogs eliminated the Oklahoma City Barons in the first round of the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs. They started the week on the road in Oklahoma City leading the series 2-0. The Barons won Game 3 on Tuesday, April 19th by a score of 2-0 as Martin Gerber made 26 saves for the shutout and Alexandre Giroux had two points. The Barons followed that up with a 5-2 victory the very next evening in Game 4 with Linus Omark and Mark Arcobello each scoring a goal and adding an assist. The Bulldogs pulled out a 2-0 win on Friday, April 22nd in Game 5 with Nigel Dawes, Aaron Palushaj and Dustin Boyd all recording two points while Drew MacIntrye stopped 20 shots for the shutout. The 'Dogs returned home on Sunday, April 24th and won Game 6 by a score of 4-1, which finished off the Barons' Calder Cup run. Nigel Dawes had two goals while Aaron Palushaj added three assists.

- LW Nigel Dawes has recorded a point in 13 of his last 15 games dating back to the regular season.

- D Alex Henry has broken the franchise record for most playoff games played by a Bulldog. He currently sits at 45 career playoff games played, passing Craig Millar and Chad Hinz who played 42 games.

- D Joe Stejskal scored his 1st ever AHL goal on in Game 1 of the 'Dogs first round series on April 14th. Stejskal was signed out of Dartmouth College by the Montreal Canadiens on March 22nd.

- G Drew MacIntyre is 1st in the league in save percentage after six games with a .945SV%. He has now won 12 of his last 15 games and has started the past 27-straight 'Dogs games dating back to the regular season.

ALUMNI WATCH:

There are over 40 former Bulldogs currently on NHL rosters. Over 60 percent of all former 'Dogs have played in at least one NHL game. Here are a few highlights and accomplishments of ex-'Dogs from this past week:

- Montreal F Andrei Kostitsyn had two goals last week in two games vs. the Boston Bruins. He scored in Game 3 (Apr. 18) and in Game 4 (Apr. 21). - Montreal F Tomas Plekanec scored a goal in Game 3 (Apr. 18) and added an assist in Game 4 (Apr. 21) vs. the Bruins.

- Montreal D P.K. Subban had an assist in Game 3 (Apr. 18) and scored a goal in Game 4 (Apr. 21) last week against the Bruins. - Boston G Tim Thomas has won three straight games for the Bruins vs. the Canadiens the past week. He made 34 saves in Game 3 (Apr. 18), 34 saves in Game 4 (Apr. 21), and 44 saves in Game 5 (Apr. 23). - Boston F Michael Ryder collected three points in Game 4 (Apr. 21) scoring two goals including the overtime winner and adding an assist.

- Washington LW Jason Chimera scored the overtime winner in Game 4 (Apr. 20) against the New York Rangers

- Los Angeles C Jarret Stoll recorded two assists in a Game 6 loss (Apr. 25) to the San Jose Sharks, eliminating the Kings from the playoffs.
