Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
The Shreveport Mudbugs (6-11-4) made a huge statement with timely goals and superb goaltending to help shutout the Amarillo Wranglers, 3-0 Friday night at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum.
The Bugs exploded late in the first period and it started at 14:53 when Gunner Moore gunned one towards the net from the right point which found its way through for his first tally of the season to make it a 1-0 Shreveport edge. Then the reigning champs got a huge shot from Austin Brimmer who took a perfect feed from Jacob Onstott and roofed in his seventh goal of the season through the slot to push the lead to 2-0 at 19:49. Onstott earned the primary assist and Trentem Hyde picked up the secondary helper. Shreveport led in SOG, 8-7 after one.
The Bugs added another goal at 14:43 of the 2nd period when Logan Gotinksy found space in front on a loose puck and buried home his fourth tally of the season to increase the lead to 3-0. Heyde picked up his second assist and newest Bug Mac Taylor earned the secondary helper. The Bugs led in SOG, 18-16 after two.
Shreveport stopped any chance of an Amarillo rally as Devon Bobak only faced 19 shots on the night to earn his second shutout of the season and help lead the Bugs to a 3-0 victory.
The win for the defending champs snapped their season long eight-game losing streak.
The Bugs and Wranglers will conclude their two-game series tomorrow night at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. It's Teddy Bear Toss Night and puck drop is scheduled for 7:11 p.m. ¬â¹
