February 2, 2020 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
The Shreveport Mudbugs (28-14) gave up four unanswered goals and fell to the Odessa Jackalopes, 6-3 Saturday night at Ector County Coliseum.
Shreveport opened up the scoring at 5:08 of the opening period when Sam Miller rifled home his 14th goal of the season from the LW circle to give the Bugs the early 1-0 lead. Jacob Smith and Warren Natyshak earned the assists on the goal as they put the initial pressure on net. Odessa responded late in the period when Ben Doherty redirected in his second goal of the season in front to tie the game, 1-1 at 16:36. The Jacks led in SOG, 10-9 after one period of play.
Odessa scored a pair of goals at 4:05 and 12:06 from Max Klanow and Jack Rudin respectively to put the Jacks up 3-1 all of a sudden. Shreveport led in SOG, 19-18 after two periods of play, but took some tough penalties and couldn't generate many quality scoring chances in the period.
The 3rd period got worse for Shreveport as Isaiah Heumpfner scored at 3:22 extending the lead for the Jacks to 4-1. Former Jack Matt Hutton would hammer home his first goal as a Bug to make it a 4-2 at 3:46, but Heumpfner scored again at the 4 minute mark to make it a 5-2 contest. Both teams traded goals as Matt Weber scored his ninth goal of the year with 5:37 left in the game before Jack Rudin shot in the EN tally with 10 seconds left in the contest.
Odessa snaps out of a 22-game losing streak as Shreveport earns the split at Ector County Coliseum.
The Mudbugs will return home next weekend for "Mardi Gras" themed festivities at George's Pond in Hirsch Coliseum. Shreveport will host the Springfield Jr. Blues next Friday and Saturday night with puck drop scheduled for 7:11 p.m. ¬â¹
