'Bugs are Back for a Big Weekend at CenturyTel

January 23, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

After nearly three weeks away from home, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs will return to CenturyTel Center this weekend for a pair of home games on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday night's game promises to be one of the premier match-ups of the season, as the Laredo Bucks visit Bossier City on "Back in Black Night". This contest between two of the Central Hockey League's top teams is also Bossier-Shreveport's first home game in the second half of the season, meaning the 'Bugs will wear their black jerseys at home for the first time this year. Help us celebrate the occasion by wearing all black to the game on Saturday and "blacking out" the CenturyTel Center . We will also have two great giveaway items for the game. The first 2,500 fans inside the area will receive Mudbugs rally bandannas courtesy of SWEPCO and the first 1,000 kids 12 or under at the game will get Mudbugs Autograph Books courtesy of Cubby Hole Storage.

Saturday night will be the second meeting of the year between the Mudbugs and Bucks, who are both within three points of the league's best record heading into this weekend's action. Bossier-Shreveport defeated Laredo by a final score of 6-2 on January 12th at the Laredo Entertainment Center , scoring four goals in the first period and never looking back on their way to a big win over their rivals from south Texas . The four-time defending Southern Conference Champion Bucks are once again the top team in that conference, with a record of 26-12-2 and 54 points. The Mudbugs (26-7-4, 56 pts) meanwhile, are within a single point of the Rocky Mountain Rage for the top spot in the league standings and have earned points in 17 consecutive games. Despite a pair of President's Cup Finals losses to the Bucks, the Mudbugs are an impressive 11-3-1 against Laredo in regular season play.

On Sunday, the Mudbugs will play their first of just two Sunday home games this the season; an afternoon affair against Rio Grande Valley . In that contest, the 'Bugs will wear their red 2007-08 third jerseys for the first time this year. When the puck drops at 4:05 pm on Sunday, it will be the Mudbugs' second meeting of the year with the Killer Bees (Bossier-Shreveport won 5-1 on January 11th at the Dodge Arena), and Rio Grande Valley's only visit to CenturyTel Center this year.

Before those two home games, the Mudbugs have one more road contest to take care of on Friday night in Oklahoma City, where the 'Bugs will try to finish up their season-high seven game road trip without a regulation loss. Bossier-Shreveport has won all three of their meetings with the Blazers so far this year by a combined score of 11-3. The Mudbugs and Blazers will face-off at 7:35 pm at the Ford Center on Friday night. Tune in to catch all the action on 1130 AM KWKH with pre-game coverage starting at 7:15, or watch the game live on the CHL Network.
