Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - Youngstown SteelHounds Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski announced today that the team has traded defenseman Gord Burnett to the Laredo Bucks for defenseman Jeff Genovy (JEN-o-vee) and forward Brent McSween. To conclude the three team deal, the Hounds have sent McSween to the Texas Brahmas for defenseman Eric Main. As per team policy terms of the deals were not disclosed.
In separate transactions the Hounds have waived goaltender Layne Sedevie, forward Chris Ferazzoli and defenseman Andrew Scampoli.
Genovy, 25, is a second year pro from Kalamazoo, Michigan. The 6-2, 205-pound center played 53 games for the Laredo Bucks compiling 10 goals, 17 assists and 36 penalty minutes in two seasons. He was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in round three (# 96 overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to turning pro in 2005-06 he played four years of NCAA Division I hockey at Clarkson University where he had 22 goals, 34 assists and 196 penalty minutes in 131 games.
"Genovy brings size speed and skill," said Kaminski. "He takes pride in playing a solid defensive game and is a good face-off man."
Main, 24, is a second year pro from Atitokan, Ontario. The 6-0, 194-pound defenseman had two goals, four assists and 40 penalty minutes in 34 games for the Texas Brahmas. "Main is an in your face type player who brings character, grit and a great work ethic," said Kaminski. "He has a mindset to not get scored on. He will play a big roll to keep the top goal scorers off the sheet."
Both players will join the Hounds in time for their three game series with the Rocky Mountain Rage beginning this Friday at 7:05 at the Chevrolet Centre.
