Buffalo Silverbacks first to beat defending ABA champions
November 25, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Buffalo Silverbacks News Release
The Buffalo Silverbacks ended the 10 game win streak of the Rochester Razorsharks Friday night at Buff State Arena, beating Rochester 96-93. Rochester is the defending ABA championship team and Buffalo is one of only two teams that have beaten them in their last 28 games (including last season).
If you weren't in attendance, you missed a game that rivaled any pro championship match that you can remember. This game had it all, furious dunks, monster blocks, 3-point mayhem and offensive maneuvering so fast that it was hard to keep up with the ball.
This is Buffalo's first win after a string of "down to the wire" matches where Buffalo has led the entire game only to lose the lead in the final minutes. This game was completely opposite. Trailing by just a few points for most of the game, Buffalo waited to pounce on its prey after it grew weak late in the game.
The springboard legs of Todd Jones, 2006 NBA Summer Pro League Slam Dunk Champion, came in handy tonight. Jones brought in 18 points for the Silverbacks and was a true force on the floor, creating and capitalizing on many scoring opportunities. Kueth Duany, captain of the '02-'03 Syracuse Championship team, played his first game of the season with the Silverbacks. Rochester was unprepared for this powerhouse who made Swiss cheese of their defense and turned in 17 points.
Don't miss the next Silverbacks game, Thursday November 30th at Buff State College Arena. The Silverbacks are proud to bring Buffalo the highest level of professional sporting entertainment at prices that make it easy to afford.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
