Buffalo Hopes Everything Is Peachy In Georgia

Buffalo Destroyers News Release

(BUFFALO, NY)- The Buffalo Destroyers hit the road for the first time this season as they travel to the Peach State to face the Georgia Force Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Saturday will also mark the first time the Destroyers will be seen on television as the Empire Sports Network will carry the game live.

Buffalo is off to a 2-1 start after beginning the season with three home games. Last week, Buffalo beat ArenaBowl runner up Arizona 49-45 in what many are calling the best game in Destroyers team history. Buffalo hopes to bring their home success on the road with them.

"It's going to be a different environment, since we are used to playing at home," said head coach Ron Selesky. "Change is good, though. Being able to get out of a regular routine and being exposed to different environments will help the team.

As the Destroyers take to the road for the first time in 2003, they will also play their first game without starting QB Jeff Loots, who was placed on injured reserve after he separated his shoulder last week against the Rattlers. Tim Carey, who relieved Loots in the fourth quarter last week and led the Destroyers to the game winning touchdown, will get the start on Saturday.

"Both Tim and Jeff have been schooled through the same train of thoughts," said Selesky. "When Tim has the chance to play, he has done some great things. He is very, very capable. What impressed me most with Tim is that he is mentally focused, composed and ready to go.

The Destroyers have one of the top defenses in the Arena Football League. DS JoJo Polk leads the league with 21.5 tackles while his partner in crime DS Dwaine Carpenter is second in the league in passes defended (eight) and second in the league in interceptions (three). The defensive line has played strong led by OL/DL Silas Demary who ranks second in league with two sacks. The Destroyers defense has recorded five sacks through the first three games. Last season they had a season total of six.

"Silas along with Terry Grooms and Hardy Mitchell were guys that played here last year and they all have made dramatic improvements," Selesky added. "The credit goes to our line coach, Jerome Brown, who has done a phenomenal job. Coach Brown has brought the linemen's intensity to a whole new level.

The Destroyers return home to play the Chicago Rush on Saturday, March 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the HSBC Arena. Mini packs and group tickets are on sale now, call the Destroyers ticket office at 716-881-4444! Single game tickets can be purchased online at tickets.com and at all tickets.com locations including Tops Friendly Markets or by phone at 1-888-223-6000.
