Buffalo Destroyers News Release
(BUFFALO, NY)- As the Buffalo Destroyers get ready for training camp next week, the team announced the signings of former NFL linemen OL/DL Steve Scifres, OL/DL Jose White and OL/DL Chris White.
"All three have proven NFL experience and each brings his own area of strength to a position that was our primary focus of upgrade," said Destroyers head coach Ron Selesky. "Scifres is a great offensive linemen who can play anywhere on the line and both Jose and Chris saw quality time in the NFL playing on the defensive side of the ball. Both are athletic enough to pick up the offensive side very quickly.
Scifres (6-4, 300, Wyoming) was a third round draft pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 1997. He played in six games for the Cowboys in '97. He signed by the Carolina Panthers in 1998 and saw action in one game. He played for Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe in 1999 winning a World Bowl Championship and spent the 2000 season with the Scottish Claymores. Scifres has played two seasons in the AFL with Arizona (2001) and Indiana (2002).
Jose White (6-4, 310, Howard) played four years in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings (1995-96), New York Jets (1996), New Orleans Saints (1996) and Jacksonville Jaguars (1996-98). He was a seventh round pick of the Vikings in 1995 and spent three games on the active roster before being placed on the practice squad. He spent time with four teams in 1996. He was in camp with the Vikings, on both the Jets and Saints practice squads and signed to the Jags active roster on December 3, 1996. He saw action in three games with Jags in 1997 and had six tackles. White played in 15 games in 1998 and had 38 tackles and three sacks. He has played the last two seasons with the af2 Jacksonville Tomcats.
Chris White (6-3, 285, Southern) was a seventh round draft pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1999. He was on the active roster for the last five games of '99 after spending most of the season on the practice squad. He joined the practice squad of the Atlanta Falcons in 2000 and was immediately elevated to the active roster. He appeared in six games for the Falcons before being sent back to the practice squad. The Dallas Cowboys picked him up late in 2000 and was on the active roster for the final two games. He went to camp with the Cowboys in 2001. White spent 2002 as a defensive end for the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders where he tallied five tackles.
