Buffalo and Rochester Sweep Wins and Awards

The National Lacrosse League weekly player awards have a Western New York feel to them for Week #5, as players from the Buffalo Bandits and Rochester Knighthawks swept the awards after sweeping their respective weekend opponents in home and home series matchups. Buffalo and Rochester were a combined 4-0 on the weekend after sweeping Philadelphia and Buffalo, respectively, in Week #5 action.

Buffalo Bandits forward John Tavares was named Overall and Offensive Player of the Week for Week #5. Tavares lead the Bandits to a pair of victories over the Philadelphia Wings in a home-and-home series last weekend. The Bandits forward scored three goals and added four assists for seven points and collected nine loose balls in a 15-10 road win over Philadelphia on Friday. Tavares also scored five goals and added four assists for nine points and collected eight loose balls in a 20-16 home win over Philadelphia on Saturday, helping Buffalo improve to 3-1 and first place in the East Division.

Rochester Knighthawks goaltender Pat O'Toole was named the Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in a pair of wins over the Toronto Rock in Week #5. O'Toole recorded 44 saves, allowed six goals, tallied four assists, and scooped up one loose ball in a 15-6 road win over Toronto on Friday. O'Toole also recorded 52 saves and allowed 11 goals in a 12-11 overtime win over Toronto at home on Saturday. The weekend sweep propelled the Knighthawks to a 3-2 record on the strength of three consecutive victories.

Buffalo Bandits rookie forward Delby Powless was named the Rookie of the Week for Week #5. Powless, the number one overall selection in the 2004 Entry Draft scored three goals and added four assists for seven points and collected eight loose balls in a 15-10 road win over Philadelphia on Friday. Powless also scored a goal and added four assists for five points and collected four loose balls in a in a 20-16 home win over Philadelphia on Saturday.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
