Laredo Bucks News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Laredo Bucks got two goals from Serge Dube as they beat the Youngstown SteelHounds 4-1 at the Youngstown Convocation Center on Tuesday night in front of 3,204 fans. The Bucks have won six of their last eight games and are 6-5-0, in a tie for second place in the Southeast Division, and just a point out of first place. The Bucks are in the midst of a three game road trip. Laredo returns home Sunday against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Face off set for 4 p.m. For more information on 2005-06 Bucks single game or season tickets call the Bucks office at (956) 718-BUCKS (2825) or log onto www.laredobucks.com.
The Bucks wasted no time scoring in the first period. Forward Nick Warriner led a two-on-one shorthanded rush down the right wing and scored on a wrist shot just 2:34 into the game. It was the Bucks CHL leading sixth shorthanded goal and Warriner's third of the year. Youngstown came right back as former Buck Darryl Lloyd swooped up a loose puck at the side of the net and stuffed it home just 28 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1. Laredo out shot Youngstown 10-5 in the first period.
The Bucks took control of the game in the second period. Forward Jeff Bes slipped the puck out of the left corner to the slot to a wide Dube who faked the shot and then slipped the puck on his backhanded into the net at 14:08 for a 2-1 Laredo lead. It was his third of the season. Dube was at it again just over four minutes later as he cut left side into the Youngstown zone and snapped in a low wrist shot for his second of the night to make it 3-1 Bucks with just 51.5 seconds to go in the period.
Laredo scored the only goal of the third period to put the game away. Defenseman Paul Elliott fired a shot that was tipped by Adam Stefishen and then tipped again by Hans Benson at 8:03. It was the first of the year for Benson. FINAL SCORE Laredo 4, Youngstown 1.
Mike Dilorenzo stopped 16 of 17 shots to get the win and improve to 2-0-0. Simon St Pierre allowed four goals on 30 shots and dropped to 3-1-0. The Bucks were 0-4 on the power play while Youngstown was 0-7. Laredo out shot the SteelHounds 30 to 17.
