Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

Youngstown, OH - The Youngstown SteelHounds (5-4-1) fell behind early on Tuesday night at the Youngstown Convocation Center and struggled to find their offensive touch in a 4-1 loss to the Laredo Bucks (6-5-0).

Laredo started the scoring on a turnover while the Hounds were on the power play. Nick Warriner went in on a 2-on-1 and decided to keep the puck and eventually slapped a shot past Simon St. Pierre for his third goal of the season, the Bucks league-leading sixth shorthanded goal. Youngstown answered back less than 30 second later when a broken play led to a bouncing puck in front of Laredo's net that Darryl Lloyd knocked past Michael Dilorenzo for his eighth goal of the season.

Laredo controlled the second period as it was the Serge Dube show as he scored a pair of goals both assisted by Brett Arcand-Kootenay. Jeff Bes also drew an assist giving him seven points in three games. The Bucks outshot the Hounds 9-7 in the period which was the closest gap Youngstown had in any of the three frames.

In the third period, Laredo did not need to do much else but hold on and they did that well outshooting the Hounds 11-5 in the frame and scoring the only goal of the period when a pass went off the skate of a SteelHound player for the fourth goal of the game for Laredo. Hans Benson got credit for the goal, his first of the season.

Laredo outshot the SteelHounds 30-17 in the game as Simon St. Pierre falls to 3-1 stopping 26 shots and Michael Dilorenzo improves to 2-0 making 16 saves. Youngstown finished the night 0 for 8 on the power play, while stopping all four Bucks chances.

The teams will meet again tomorrow night with face-off scheduled for 7:05 PM.

In the second period, the Hounds started to show their bite as they scored three goals in the frame taking a commanding 4-0 lead. Christian did the trick again at the 6:16 mark assisted once again by Richards and Lloyd. Christian struck again for his second hat trick of the season at the 11:54 mark assisted by Jeff Antonovich and Jeff Alcombrack. For Christian, it was his 12th goal of the season and the 12th time Christian has scored in the last 23 marks for the Hounds. Youngstown outshot the Oilers 18-6 in the period.

The third period saw neither team find the back of the net but Tulsa made St. Pierre earn his shutout by throwing 11 shots on goal in the period. Youngstown finished the game outshooting the Oilers 30-21 as St. Pierre finished with 21 saves and King finished with 26 saves.

The Hounds finished the night 1 for 9 on the power play and stopped all 8 Tulsa power plays.

With the win, St. Pierre is 3-0 on the season and Youngstown has know won four of their last six contests.

The home stand continues on Tuesday night when Laredo comes to town for a pair of games. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 and several Pittsburgh Pirates alumni will be on hand including Frank Thomas and Manny Sanguillen along with the Pirate Parrot. Fans wearing Pirates merchandise will receive a $10.00 Silver Level seat for $8.00.
