
Bucks Sign Rookie Defenseman Sample

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks announced Tuesday that they have signed rookie defenseman Tomas Sample for the 2009-10 season. Sample played four seasons of Junior hockey in the OHL, before taking the last two years off to complete his education. Â The 22-year-old Sample played 125 games in the OHL with the Sudbury Wolves and Sarnia Sting where he put up 221 PIM's, to go along with 22 points (5-18=22). Â "Tomas is a big, tough defenseman that can help make our team tougher this season," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "We are excited to see what he can do for us here." Â Sample, from Barrie, Ontario, also played 61 games in the OPJHL for the Couchiching Terriers and the Oakville Blades where he piled up 105 points, while scoring 28 points (6-22=28). Â The 6'2, 200 pound Sample helped lead Sudbury into the second round of the 2005 OHL Playoffs where they lost to the eventual league-runner up Ottawa. Â Sample is the fourth Bucks player signed this offseason. Â The Bucks will start their eighth season in the Gateway City in October, and will host the 2010 CHL All-Star game January 13th.
