Bucks set their sights on FireAnts

Houma, La—Over the weekend, the Bayou Bucks were defeated by the Evansville Bluecats 51-49. The loss marked Houma’s second of the season, and their first defeat on their home turf since June of 2002.

Highlights of the contest include Houma receiver Kevin Heard catching 10 passes for 161 yards and 4 touchdowns. On the ground for Houma, running back Jarvis Dunn had 8 carries for 43 yards and 2 touchdowns. Dunn also contributed significantly on special team with 157 yards on 5 kickoff returns.

The Bucks travel to Tupelo, Mississippi this Friday to take on division rival FireAnts. This will mark the third and final time these two teams will play each other in the regular season.

The first meeting between these two teams resulted in 58-50 Tupelo victory. The FireAnts took control on the ground by amassing 142 rushing yards by Rico McDonald, Joe Gunn, and Will Hall. For the Bucks, quarterback Doug Coleman complete 15 of 27 passes for 175 yards and 5 scores.

The second meeting between the Bucks and FireAnts saw Houma explode for 84 points. Houma running back Jarvis Dunn rushed for 82 yards and 3 touchdowns. While through the air, Doug Coleman threw 6 touchdowns, 3 of which went to Kevin Heard.

When asked about this week’s match up Coach Phillips responded, “Tupelo is an excellent football team. Coach Hall has done an excellent job this season.” Phillips went on to say, “This is a huge game for both teams. We need to work extremely hard at practice, and cut down on our mistakes.”

The Bucks will return to the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center on June 12 to take on the Wichita Falls Thunder. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at any Ticket master location.

Bayou Bucks Notes:

· This week’s game will take place on a Friday night. This marks only the second time the Bucks have played a Friday game; the other Friday game occurred this season at Tupelo.

· Houma running back Jarvis Dunn has excelled against the FireAnts this season. In two games, Jarvis has accumulated 184 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns. Dunn also has 7 catches for 58 yards and 1 score against Tupelo.

· This game, like all Bucks games, can be heard live on Eagle 106.3 KXOR FM. Join Hilary Domangue for all the action with the pre-game show set to begin at 6:30.

· Last week against the Evansville Bluecats, Houma kicker Chris Stropolo executed a “drop kick” on an extra point attempt. According to NIFL rules, any successful drop kick on a point after touchdown attempt will result in 2 points. Similarly, any successful “drop kick” on a field goal attempt will result in 4 points.
