Bucks Road Demons Haunt Them In 2-1 Loss

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 2-1 Friday night, in front of 5,362 fans at the American Bank Center. The Bucks loss coupled with the Texas Brahmas win Friday night, puts Laredo 12 points back of Texas in the Southeast Division. Laredo falls to 25-15-4 (54pts).

The Bucks are now just 2-8-3 in their last 13 road games.

Corpus Christi goaltender Kris Tebbs stopped 29 of 30 shots to pick up the win for the Ice Rays (19-23-4, 42pts).

The Ice Rays jumped out in front of the Bucks for the third straight game, as Ryan Crane scored a power-play goal 4:05 into the first.

Corpus made it 2-0 with 5:37 left in the first period, when Justin Quenneville took the puck from his own end and went past all five Bucks defenders and sent a shot five hole past Andrew Martin.

The Bucks cut the Ice Rays lead in half to 2-1, when Serge Dube sent a shot from the point in past Kris Tebbs with 2:05 left in the first. The tally was Dube's eighth of the season, with Rick Kozak (20) and Igor Agarunov (10) picking up assists.

The Bucks outshot the Ice Rays 8-7 in the first 20 minutes.

The second period was scoreless, as neither team could light the lamp.

Martin stopped Quenneville on a breakway at the 10 minute mark of the second period, to keep the game 2-1. Martin made a stellar kick save on Quenneville.

Laredo came up empty on four power-play chances in the second period, with Tebbs coming up big in net for the Ice Rays.

The Bucks outshot the Ice Rays in the second period 12-6.

Martin stopped 21 of 23 Ice Rays shots in net for the Bucks.

The Bucks are now 11-5-4 in one-goal games this season.

Laredo outshot Corpus in the game 30-23.

The Bucks will return home Saturday to host the Tulsa Oilers on Westwind Homes night. The Jr. Bucks will be performing on ice during the intermissions. Call 718-BUCK (2825) to order tickets.
