Waterloo Bucks News Release
Waterloo, IA - The Waterloo Bucks have announced that they have hired Jeremy Massie as the team's pitching coach for the 2015 season. Massie, who is currently a graduate manager at the University of Mississippi, joins field manager Tony Manville and coach Aaron Rea to form Waterloo's coaching staff for the team's 21st season of play. Massie replaces coach Connor Duckhorn who will be unable to coach with the Bucks this summer due to collegiate obligations.
"I am pretty excited about the opportunity to coach with the Waterloo Bucks," said Massie. "Thanks to [Ole Miss] Coach Carl Lafferty for reaching out to some people and coming across this job opportunity. I hope to contribute as much as possible for the Bucks, the players, and help continue the tradition that has been set. I look forward to the experience I will receive coaching here and look forward to teaching everything I know to the group of guys coming in this summer."
Originally from Sardis, Mississippi, Massie is in his first year as an assistant with the Rebels. Massie played for Ole Miss in 2013 and 2014, finishing his senior season with a 4-3 record and a 2.69 ERA in 21 games. Prior to playing with the Rebels, Massie attended Northwest Mississippi Community College where he compiled a 6-3 record with one save and a 3.32 ERA.
"I am very excited to have Jeremy on the staff this year," said Manville. "He comes from a great program at Ole Miss and will bring a lot of knowledge with him to help our pitchers develop and succeed in this league. Jeremy pitched in the College World Series and knows what it takes to compete at the highest level of college baseball. He will be a great asset to us here in Waterloo."
Born December 17, 1991, Jeremy is the son of Arthur and Theresa Massie.
The Bucks, the winningest team in all of summer-collegiate baseball over the past two years, will open the 2015 season on the road versus the Alexandria Blue Anchors on May 26, but return to Waterloo for their home opener versus the Mankato MoonDogs on May 28. Fans are encouraged to stay in touch with the Bucks in the off-season by utilizing their website at www.waterloobucks.com.
