Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Thursday that they have acquired Veteran Center Marty Standish from the Oklahoma City Blazers for future considerations. Standish is in his tenth professional season, including eight with the Blazers. It is not clear when Standish will make his Bucks debut.

The Kelvington, Saskachewon native has played in 580 career games, scoring 221 goals, with 314 assists, for 535 points. Standish has played in 445 games for the Blazers, piling up 449 points (188-261=449), helping them win the 2001 CHL President's Cup Championship.

"Marty Standish has proved himself for a while as a professional", said Bucks Head Coach and General Manager Terry Ruskowski. "He has won championships, he is very well respected by coaches, teammates, and fans. He is just what we want here, and we are pretty darned excited about this".

Standish was traded to the Bucks as a result of Veteran Chad Hintz returning to the Blazers earlier this week, putting them one Vet over the roster limit.

The 5'8'', 180 pound Standish picked up six assists this season for the Blazers, before being dealt to Laredo.

Standish broke the 80-point plateau in two consecutive seasons with Oklahoma City, as he put up 88 points (43-45=88) in the Blazers 2000-2001 Cup team, and picked up 82 points (38-44=82) in the 2001-02 campaign.

"I've been looking for another big center all season long, Marty is our answer to that", Ruskowski said. "We know he will do a great job here in Laredo".

Standish ends his Blazer career near the top of every different offenseive category. Standish is second in Blazers history in goals (188), short-handed goals (16), third in assists (261), points ( 449), game-winning goals (28), shots (1,831), and PIM's (1,116), fourth in power-play goals (52), fifth in games played (445), and +/- rating (+58).

Standish is the fourth Veteran on the Bucks roster, joining Jeff Bes, Serge Dube, and Bobby Russell.

Standish was an alternate captain on the 1998 Memorial Cup Champion Winter Hawks.
