Bucks Get Lump Of Coal, Lose 1-0

December 22, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Laredo Bucks News Release

HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 1-0 Monday night, in front of 4,211 fans at the Dodge Arena. The loss snaps the Bucks two-game winning streak, and drops them to 18-7-1 (37pts). Laredo still leads the Southeast Division by four points over Texas.

The Bucks were shutout Monday for the first time since January 20, 2008 when they fell at the LEC 4-0 to Corpus Christi.

Christian Boucher stopped all 41 Laredo shots to earn the shutout for the Killer Bees, while Sebastien Centomo set aside 42 of 43 Rio attempts to take the hard luck loss.

The Killer Bees (12-11-2) jumped out in front of the Bucks as they cashed in on a short-handed goal 7:56 into the first.

Zak McClellan scooped up a loose puck right behind the Laredo net, and stuffed it in with a back hander short side past Sebastien Centomo. The tally was McClellan's fourth of the season.

The short-handed tally was just the third given up by the Bucks this season.

Laredo outshot Rio 17-12 in the first 20 minutes.

The second period was highlighted by solid defense and stellar goaltending by both teams, as neither the Bucks or Killer Bees could light the lamp in the second 20 minutes.

The Bucks (5-4-1 on the road) once again outshot the Killer Bees in the period, this time by a count of 15-11.

Laredo was forced to kill of two-minute five-on-three Rio power-play with over eight minutes left in the game. The Bucks defense would step up, and allow only one shot on the two-man Killer Bee advantage.

The Bucks pulled Centomo for the final 1:18 of the game, and had several chances to tie the game but were unsuccessful.

The loss for the Bucks also means that Team President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski will not be a co-coach for the CHL All-star game. Odessa's Paul Gillis will coach with Oklahoma City's Doug Sauter, due to the Jackalopes having a better winning percentage than Laredo after December 23rd.

The Bucks are now 0-3 at the Dodge Arena this season.

The Bucks continue their four-game road trip this weekend, as they head west to take on the Colorado Eagles and the Rocky Mountain Rage.

The Bucks will return home to host their 7th annual New Year's Eve Bash on December 31st when they host the Killer Bees. After the game the Bucks will hold the fireworks celebration inside the LEC for the first time ever! You can get four tickets for $40, by calling 718-BUCK (2825).
