Bucks Drop Pair, But Also Grab All-Star Game Success

LAREDO, Texas – The Laredo Bucks dropped a pair of games this past weekend. Laredo lost 3-2 to Odessa at the LEC on Friday and then dropped a 3-2 decision at Rio Grande Valley on Saturday. The Bucks then had several days off while the 2005 Dodge CHL All-Star Game Festivities took place at the LEC. With Laredo hosting the event three Bucks participated in the Wednesday night game. The Northern Conference prevailed over the host Southern Conference 14-13 in a shootout at the LEC; Bucks forward Adam Paiement had a goal for the Southern Conference. The Bucks are on the road Friday night against the Corpus Christi Rayz in a first place showdown in the Southeast Division. Laredo returns home for a showdown with the high flying Colorado Eagles on Saturday at the LEC. LORD STANLEY GOES TO MEXICO

· Yesterday the Stanley Cup made its way across the border into Mexico for the first time ever. Mike Bolt, representing the Hockey Hall of Fame, took Lord Stanley across the Rio Grande River as part of the 2005 Dodge CHL All-Star Game Festivities in Laredo.

· The Bucks will give out stadium cups courtesy of SBC to the first 1,250 fans and also Thundersticks from Cingular to the first 2,500.

CORPUS CHRISTI RAYZ • This is the seventh of 12 meetings this year between the teams with Laredo leading the season series 4-2-0. The Bucks beat the Rayz 4-2 on 10/23 at the LEC in their home opener. Bucks forward Jeff Bes had a hat trick. On 11/05 the Rayz opened up the AmericanBank Center with three power play goals in a 6-4 win over Laredo. On 11/26 the Bucks jumped to a 3-0 lead and held on for a 5-3 victory at the LEC. Jeff Bes and Brent Cullaton each had a pair of goals. On 11/27 the Rayz registered their first ever win at the LEC, 3-2 over Laredo. On 12/18 the Bucks won 5-1 at Corpus Christi as five different players scored. The Bucks edged the Rayz 3-1 on 12/26 at the LEC as goalie Jeremy Symington stopped 37 of 38 shots. In the series the Bucks are 5-27 on the power play, while the Rayz are 6-39 this year.

2003-04: The Bucks were 11-2-0 against the Rayz last year, including 7-0-0 at home. The Bucks outscored the Rayz 38-14 in those seven home games. All-time Laredo is 25-6-0 against Corpus, including 16-1-0 at the LEC and outscoring them 89-39 on home ice.

· COLORADO EAGLES · This is the first and only meeting of the regular season between the teams.

2003-04: Last year the Bucks beat the Eagles 4-3 on December 6th. Bucks forward Brent Cullaton scored on a penalty shot with less than a minute to go to give Laredo the victory in the only previous match up between the teams.

LNB ALL-STAR SKILLS WINNERS

· On Tuesday night Bucks forward Brent Cullaton captured the Crager Fastest Skater contest at the LNB All-Star Skills Competition. Also Bucks goalie Jeremy Symington stopped 15 of 19 shots and was the overall individual goalie winner in the Skills Competition. Anders Strome of the Lubbock Cotton Kings won the Sherwood Accuracy Shootout by hitting four targets on six shots, while Colorado Eagles forward Greg Pankewicz won the Whataburger Hardest Shot contest with a blast of 91 mph.

BUCKS HAVE SKILLS

· In three years the Bucks have had five winners in the All-Star Skills Competition. In 2003 Chris Grenville won the Hardest Shot, in 2004 Brent Cullaton won the Fastest Skater and Patrik Nilson won the Accuracy Shootout. This year Cullaton again won the Fastest Skater, while Jeremy Symington was the overall goalie winner.

CHL ALL-STAR GAME RECORDS

* Colorado Eagles forward Greg Pankewicz broke a CHL All-Star Game record with nine points.

* Pankewicz broke another CHL All-Star Game record by scoring five goals. Bucks forward Chris Grenville had a share of the old record with four goals in the 2003 game at OKC.

* The teams combined for a CHL All-Star record 148 shots.

* The teams combined for a CHL All-Star record 27 goals.

2005 DODGE CHL ALL-STAR GAME ON FSN

Friday evening on Fox Sports Net Southwest the complete Dodge All-Star Game will be shown, featuring broadcasters Joe Dominey, Glen Norman and Rob Simpson. The game will air at 7 p.m. FSN Southwest reaches over 8.1 million cable and satellite TV homes in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. Viewers living outside of the Southwest region who subscribe to either DirecTV's or DISH Network's satellite TV sports packages can watch the game on January 14th on DirecTV Channel 643 or DISH Network Channel 416.

FIRST PLACE SHOWDOWN

· This Friday night will be the third straight first place showdown between the Bucks and the Rayz. The Bucks won the previous two 12/18 and 12/26 to move into a first place tie atop the Southwest Division. Laredo trails the Rayz by two points going into Friday night's action.

BUCKS WEEKLY GAME RECAPS

· 01/08/05 – SATURDAY – The defending CHL Champion Laredo Bucks came up a goal shy in a 3-2 loss to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the Dodge Arena on Saturday night. Killer Bees goalie Jeff Levy stopped 39 of 41 shots to send the Bucks to their second straight loss. The Bucks are 16-12-1 with 33 points and despite the loss remain just two points out of first place in the Southeast Division as they head to the All-Star Break. Levy stopped all but two shots to post the win and improve to 10-14-0. Jeremy Symington allowed three goals on 27 shots and took the loss to fall to 10-5-0.

· 01/07/05 – FRIDAY – The Odessa Jackalopes grabbed a three goal lead then held on to beat the defending CHL Champion Laredo Bucks 3-2 in front of 6,026 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center on Friday night. Rookie goalie Derek Dolson turned aside 35 of 37 shots to get the win in net for Odessa. The Bucks season high six game home win streak came to an end as did their two game overall win streak. Laredo is now 16-11-1 and drops into second place in the Southeast Division with 33 points. David Guerrera allowed three goals on 23 shots and suffered the loss to fall to 6-7-1. Derek Dolson stopped all but two shots to get the win and improve to 4-2-0.
