Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, Texas â The Laredo Bucks announced today that John Beckelhymer has joined the team as their new President.
The 41-year old Beckelhymer was born and raised in Laredo, but has lived in Austin, TX and Monterrey, NL. He is married to the former Gabriela Fuentes from Venezuela and worked the past eight years for the Webb County Elections office.
"John and I have been friends since I came to Laredo four years ago", said Bucks CEO / Owner Julian "Kiki" DeAyala. "In that time I've gotten to know John's skills and capabilities. When the position became available I felt like he had the exact skill set that we were looking for to take this organization to the next level."
With the hiring of Beckelhymer as President, DeAyala moves from President to CEO while Glenn Hart remains as Chairman of the Bucks.
"John is personable, intelligent, organized, detailed, and a leader," continued DeAyala. "My partners in this organization are extremely fortunate to have a person of John's caliber leading our franchise."
With just 11 days until the 2003-04 Bucks CHL season begins, Beckelhymer is hustling to get up to speed.
"I'm getting caught up on all the rules, everyone's position and what their duties are," said Beckelhymer. "When the doors open to the Laredo Entertainment Center, people are going to come to a great party and a hockey game is going to break out."
Beckelhymer was a season ticket holder last year and came to every Bucks home game. When Terry Ruskowski was hired as the Bucks head coach in 2001 the first person he was introduced to was Beckelhymer.
"I had a chance to introduce âRosco' to people when he first got to town. After being around the Bucks last year I am extremely excited to be officially part of the team," said Beckelhymer. "I saw this as a unique challenge that fit my skill set perfectly. It's a lot of high energy activity; it's like a full blown election 32 times a year. We have a great opportunity to take this franchise to a higher level as well as some exciting, new opportunities around the corner".
Beckelhymer will be available to meet with the media today from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the LEC.
