Des Moines Buccaneers News Release

Urbandale (IA) Des Moines Buccaneers' head coach and general manager Regg Simon announced today that the team has acquired Zach Saar from the Chicago Steel in exchange for forward Ray Pigozzi.

Saar is a native of Plainwell, MI and immediately brings added size to the Buccaneers' roster at 6'5 and 200 pounds. With Chicago he had 13 points (8 goals, 5assists) in 23 games this season after scoring 10pts (4g, 6a) as a rookie last season.

"We are excited to have acquired Zach and think he'll add a nice element to our team," said Simon. "He's a handful to play against because he's so competitive. Whether he has that size or not, any player that plays that hard is noticeable every night."

He is committed to play at Penn State's new Division I program and joins fellow Buccaneer Connor Varley as part of the Nittney Lions list of future players.

The Buccaneers (11-12-2) are back in action Friday at Omaha and home on Saturday against Sioux Falls with both games beginning at 7pm. Saturday night's game will feature "90's Night" at Buccaneer Arena with music and pop culture references from the 1990s all night long.

The Des Moines Buccaneers are playing their 32nd consecutive season in the United States Hockey League this season. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
