MINOT, ND - Jade Miller scored twice and added an assist while Kris Carlson stopped all 26 Minot shots in a 5-0 Bruins win over the Mintauros on Saturday Night at Maysa Arena. The Bruins swept the weekend and moved within a point of first place in the Central Division, improving to 9-6-1.
Veteran forwards Miller and Luke Forfar scored in the first period, both at even strength. Miller deflected a William Riedell shot home at 13:18 and then Forfar arced a shot over Minot goaltender Lucas Murray at 17:36 and the score was 2-0 after 20 minutes.
Neither team scored in a penalty-filled 2nd period that saw Gilbert Gabor ejected for an elbowing penalty on Minot's Johnny Walker.
In the 3rd, Miller deflected another point shot, this time from Marcus Karlstrom at 3:28 to boost the lead to 3-0. Less than four minutes later, Austin Rueschhoff netted a powerplay goal, cleaning up a loose puck on the edge of the crease. Jacob Paganelli scored Austin's 5th goal on a 3-on-1 rush, taking a feed from Dawson DiPietro.
Carlson's 26 save shutout was his first of the season and 7th win. The road team has now won all four games in the head to head between the Bruins and Mintauros this season. The Bruins will try to extend their winning streak to five with the first of three games next week in Richfield, MN as they take on the Magicians for the first time in the regular season. They'll return home Friday to host the Coulee Region Chill before traveling to LaCrosse, WI on Saturday to play the Chill again.
