Bruins sign Mitch Topping

Chilliwack Bruins' General Manager Darrell May announced today that Mitch Topping, the Bruins first selection, 8th overall in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft this past May has signed with the club.

Topping, a 1993 born defenceman spent last season as the captain of the Red Deer Bantam AAA team where he tallied 14 goals, 26 assists and 100 penalty minutes in 40 games. The 6'1, 175lb defenceman was also captain of the Central Thrashers at April's Alberta Cup where he scored three goals and one assist to go with 34 minutes in penalties in five games.

"We are very pleased that Mitch and his family have chosen the Chilliwack Bruins and the Western Hockey League to pursue his hockey career," commented Bruins GM Darrell May. "Mitch is a very impressive young man, both on and off the ice and we look forward to seeing him in a Bruins uniform for years to come."

Topping is expected to play for the Red Deer Rebels AAA Midget Team next season.

"I'm really excited," Topping said. "I'm stoked to be part of the organization and I can't wait till training camp."

As a 1993 born player, Topping is eligible to play five games for the Bruins during the 2008/09 season prior to the completion of his minor hockey team's schedule.

Bruin's Training Camp begins August 21st at Prospera Centre in Chilliwack.
