Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (February 29, 2012) - Quad City Mallards goaltender David Brown has been recalled to the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Heat, the Mallards announced today.

Brown, 27, has gone 12-7-1 with a 2.87 goals against average and a .905 save percentage in 21 games since being assigned to the Mallards by the Heat in December. Before joining the Mallards, Brown split the start of the season between Abbotsford- for whom he did not see any game action- and the ECHL's Las Vegas Wranglers. Brown went 2-2-0 with a 2.95 goals against average and a .874 save percentage in four outings with the Wranglers.

Brown, who made 39 saves last night in the Mallards' 3-2 overtime loss to Fort Wayne, is the second Mallard netminder to be called up to the AHL in four days. David McKee on Sunday was recalled to the Peoria Rivermen for the third time this season.

The 6' 0", 185-pound Brown first played for the Mallards last season. The Stoney Creek, Ontario, native last year led the CHL in save percentage (.930), finished second in goals against average (2.33) and finished tied for second in shutouts (4) while going 17-16-1 in 37 games for Quad City. For his efforts, Brown was named a finalist for the CHL Goaltender of the Year award.

Brown last season was called up to the American League on five separate occasions and played in two games for the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins during which he turned in a 3.75 goals against average and .898 save percentage without recording a win or loss.

Brown joined the Mallards last season after tending goal in 2009-10 for the ECHL's Gwinnett Gladiators, for whom he went 10-19-3 in 33 games while posting a 3.94 goals against average and a .888 save percentage. Brown was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the eighth round of the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft with the two hundred twenty-eighth overall pick. Brown spent his first two seasons in the Penguins' organization before landing in Gwinnett.

Brown split his first two pro campaigns between the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL. As a rookie in 2007-08, Brown went 9-7-1 in 19 AHL games while recording a 2.34 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. That campaign also saw him go 6-6-1 in

13 games in the ECHL with a 3.31 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. The following year Brown went 1-2-0 in four games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and 14-6-2 with a 3.06 goals against average and a .907 save percentage with Wheeling.

Before turning pro Brown enjoyed a standout four-year collegiate career at Notre Dame. As a freshman in 2003-04, he was named Notre Dame's Rookie of the Year after backstopping the Fighting Irish to the first NCAA tournament berth in school history. Brown's senior year likewise proved historic as he was named a Hobey Baker Award finalist while helping the Golden Domers to the first Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular season and playoff titles in the program's history and another NCAA tournament appearance. Brown set a host of school records in 2006-07, going 30-6-3 in 39 games with a 1.58 goals against average, a .931 save percentage and six shutouts. He led the nation in wins and goals against average and finished second in shutouts and save percentage on the way to earning First Team All-American West honors, being named CCHA Player of the Year and making the All-CCHA First Team. In 111 career games in the gold and blue Brown went 55-38-11 with a 2.32 goals against average, a .916 save percentage and 12 shutouts.
