Buffalo Destroyers News Release
(BUFFALO, NY) â Buffalo Destroyers head coach Ron Selesky announced today the additions of wide receivers/fullbacks/linebackers coach Chad Lindsey, offensive/defensive line coach Jerome Brown and equipment manager John Laske to the Destroyers coaching staff.
Lindsey joins the Destroyers staff from the Tennessee Valley Vipers of af2 where he served as special teams and fullbacks/linebackers coach. Lindsey coached under Selesky in 2001 with the af2's Louisville Fire as the assistant head coach/offensive coordinator. He also coached with Selesky with the Carolina Cobras as fullbacks/linebackers coach in 2000. Lindsey played seven years in the AFL at wide receiver/linebacker with Charlotte (1994-96), New Jersey (1997-99) and Carolina (2000). Lindsey, a two-time All-Ironman Team selection, tallied 256.5 career tackles and is sixth all-time in AFL history with 11 forced fumbles and ninth all-time with 10 fumble recoveries.
"Chad has been involved in Arena Football as a player and coach for over 10 years," said Selesky. "He coached for me in Louisville and has a good understanding of my expectations and I'm confident he will be a big contributor to our success.
Brown joins the Destroyers coaching staff after a one year absence from football. Brown was the defensive coordinator/offensive and defensive line coach and special teams coach for the Rochester Brigade of af2 in 2001. Brown is a seven year AFL veteran playing offensive/defensive line for Albany (1994-97), Grand Rapids (1998) and New Jersey (1999-2000). He was named second team All-Arena in 1996 recording 12.5 tackles and a league leading eight sacks.
"Jerome is a very intense, high energy guy who is a very good teacher," Selesky added. "He had several successful seasons as a player in this league that will lend itself greatly to our improvement on the line this season.
Laske has spent a lifetime in locker rooms working as an equipment manager in the AFL, NFL, USFL and NCAA. He held jobs with the University of Maryland the Washington Federals (USFL) and the Seattle Seahawks (NFL) before joining the Arena Football League in 1988 with the now-defunct Los Angeles Cobras. In subsequent years, he worked throughout the league with the 10 teams and has been involved with the AFL in 15 of its first 16 years.
Buffalo also announced it has retained defensive coordinator Weylan Harding, special teams coordinator/assistant coach Ryan Gallo and scout Lou Rossi.
Buffalo kicks off its fifth season in the Arena Football League Saturday, February 1, 2003 as the Destroyers host the Grand Rapids Rampage at the HSBC Arena. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Season tickets are on sale now. Call 881-4444!
