Brooklyn Powers Past 1000 Islands 5-2

LEWISTON, ME - The Brooklyn Aviators picked up their fourth straight win with a 5-2 victory over the 1000 Island Privateers on Thursday night in the Maine Event at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Federal Hockey League action.

Andrew Owsiak chipped in with three assists while five different A's tallied in the win for Brooklyn.

Brooklyn jumped to an early 2-0 lead over 1000 Islands halfway through the opening period. Joe Dabkowski registered his first goal in an Aviators uniform at the 9:34 mark. Dabkowski broke in on Privateers goalie Matt Anthony and slipped the puck past the netminder to put Brooklyn on top 1-0. Steve Koich doubled the A's lead after his shorthanded tally found the back of the net 2:34 later. Koich broke up a pass at the Brooklyn blueline, skated the length of the ice and put the pack past Anthony on the backhand for the 2-0 edge. The Privateers cut the deficit to 2-1 with just 13-seconds left on Brad Townsend's fourth marker of the year.

Casey Mignone would give the Aviators a 3-1 lead 6:08 into the second period on his 13th goal of the season, after his wrister beat Anthony high over the glove along the right side. Late in the frame, Aviators rookie forward Matt Atsoff put the A's up 4-1 as his shot slid under Anthony from the left wing circle with 5:16 left in the second. Michael Byrd tallied on a breakaway for the Privateers 1:10 later to cut into the Aviators lead at 4-2.

Brendan Baumgartner iced it late for the Aviators with a power play goal, his fourth of the season, to seal the victory for Brooklyn 5-2.

Aviators' netminder Jo St. Pierre earned the win making 36 saves, while Anthony is charged with the loss despite putting aside 37 shots

The Aviators return to action tomorrow night when they take on the visiting Akwesasne Warriors at the Aviator Sports and Events Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. and can be watched live via the Aviators broadcast network powered by LiveSportsVideo.com.
