Broncos' Win Streak Snapped at 3 in Loss to Colts

Harlingen, TX-The Laredo Broncos only managed 1 run as they lost to the San Angleo Colts by a score of 4-1 on Saturday night at Veterans Field. The Broncos continue on their 6 game home stand with the middle game of a 3 game series against the San Angelo Colts on Sunday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Colts would grab the early lead in the 1st inning off of Broncos starter Sean Donlin. Bryan Frichter led off the inning with single and stole 2nd base. Tyrone Pendergrass then laid down a bunt and the throw from Donlin was hit and went into right field. That allowed Frichter to score and Pendergrass to head to 3rd. Then with 1 away, Andres Rodriguez doubled in Pendergrass to make the score 2-0.

The Broncos would strike in the 2nd inning. With 2 outs Arnoldo Ponce singled and went to 2nd on a single by Josue Gonzalez. Ben Tinius then delivered with a rbi single scoring Ponce and making the score 2-1.

Both starting pitchers were in control for the next few innings. After giving up the one run, Colts starter Bryan Henschel would allow only 2 hits and a walk thru 5 innings of work. Donlin was just as good after giving up his 2 runs in the 1st. From the 2nd through the 5th inning, Donlin only allowed 3 base runners with 2 walks and a hit. However the Colts still remained ahead by a run.

Donlin would be done after 6 innings of work. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. He walked 2 batters and struck out 2 as well. Mickey Callaway would come into the game.

Callaway would pitch a scoreless 7th but gave up a run in the 8th. Bryan Frichter walked and then went to 3rd on a single by pinch hitter John Anderson. Jose Torres then hit into a 4-6-3 double play, but the run scored making the score 3-1.

The Colts would tack on another run in the 9th. With 1 out Jason Landreth doubled. Albert Gonzalez would pitch run and score on a single by Joe Rhomberg. That gave the Colts a 3 run lead as Luke Massetti came in looking for the save.

The Broncos would get their first 2 hitters out when Arnoldo Ponce singled. Luany Sanchez then pinched hit and reached base on an error bringing up the tying run. Ben Tinius, however hit into a fielder's choice to end the game as the Broncos fell by a score by 4-1

The Broncos scored 1 run on 7 hits and committed 2 errors, while the Colts scored 4 runs on 9 hits and committed 1 error.

The Broncos now fall to 36-40 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Sunday when they play game 2 of a 3 game series against the San Angleo Colts in Laredo at 7:35.
