
Broncos falter against Aces

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos made 5 errors en route to a loss to the Alexandria Aces by a score of 10-6 on Monday night at Veterans Field. The Broncos continue on their short home stand with the finale of a 3 game against the Alexandria Aces on Tuesday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Aces would get on the scoreboard first in the 3rd inning, as with 1 away Eddie Fitzpatrick and Blake Butler were walked. Luis Guance followed with a 3 run home run, his 9th of the season. That gave the Aces the early 3-0 lead.
The Broncos would strike in their half of the 3rd. With 1 out, Sean Gamble walked and then went to 2nd on a single by Ivan Reyes. Luany Sanchez then hit a high fly ball that left fielder Blake Butler could not find. The ball ended up hitting the wall and Gamble would score, but Reyes would be thrown out trying to go to 3rd. That made the score 3-1.
The Aces would take advantage of the Broncos defense in the 4th inning. Rafael Ozuna began the inning with a single and then stole 2nd base and went to 3rd when the throw by Luany Sanchez went into centerfield. Then with 1 out, Madison Edwards walked. Homy Ovalles then was safe on an fielder's choice when Johnny Lopez's throw to 2nd was wide of the base. That allowed Ozuna to score and Edwards to be safe at 2nd. Then with 2 outs, Blake Butler walked to load the bases. Luis Guance then hit a 2 run single scoring both Edwards and Ovalles. Selwyn Langaigne then followed with a rbi single scoring Butler. Bryan Sabatella would also hit a rbi single scoring Guance. That gave the Aces a 8-2 lead.
The Broncos would score in their half of the 4th as well. Dwayne White reached 1st on an error by the 2nd baseman Luis Guance. White then went to 2nd on a wild pitch by Aces starter Alexis Sosa. Johnny Lopez would then single in White, to make the score 8-2.
Santo Hernandez would leave after 4 innings. He gave up 8 runs, 3 of which were earned on 6 hits. He walked 3 batters and struck out 4. Andy Schon made a rare relief appearance and pitched a scoreless inning.
Alexandria would extend their lead in the 6th inning against reliever Rusty Jones. With 1 out, Luis Guance singled and then went to 2nd on a single by Selwyn Langaigne. Both runners would move to 2nd and 3rd on a passed ball Luany Sanchez. Bryan Sabatella hit a rbi groundout. That made the score 9-2.
The Aces would make it 10-2 in the 7th inning when Homy Ovalles hit a solo home run, his 5th of the season.
The Broncos would add on a run in the 8th inning. Anthony Bennett walked to start off the inning and then went to 2nd when Arnoldo Ponce was hit by a pitch. Both runners would advance on a Ben Tinius groundout. Bennett would then score which would make the score 10-3.
Dan Sausville would hold the Aces scoreless in the 9th inning as Laredo trailed by 7 heading into their last at bat in the bottom of the 9th.
Ivan Reyes led off the inning with a single and went to 2nd on a walk to Josue Gonzalez. After 1 out Anthony Bennett hit a ball to first baseman Jose Umbria who tried to get Gonzalez at 2nd, but the throw went into left field. That allowed both Reyes and Gonzalez to score and have Bennett to go to 3rd. After that B.J. Litchfield came in finished off the inning as the Broncos fell by a score of 10-6
The Broncos scored 6 runs on 6 hits and committed 5 errors, while the Aces scored 10 runs on 12 hits and committed 3 errors.
The Broncos now fall to 33-38 on the season. Laredo now has a 1 game lead over the Edinburg Coyotes for the 4th seed as they were rained out against the Amarillo Dillas. The Broncos will be back in action on Tuesday when they play game 3 of a 3 game series against the Alexandria Aces in Laredo at 7:35.
