
Broncos come up short in series loss to Colts

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos brought the tying run up to the plate in the 9th inning, but couldn't get the job done as they fell to the San Angelo Colts at Veterans Field by a score of 8-5 on Tuesday night. The Broncos continue their 6 game home stand, with the start of a 3 game series with the Amarillo Dillas on Friday night. Before tomorrow's game, The Broncos and Dillas will finish their suspended game from June 7th. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Colts got the scoring in the top of the 1st inning. With one out, Tyrone Pendergrass reached on an error by Ivan Reyes. Then Pendergrass stole 2nd base and scored on a double by Andres Rodriguez, giving them an early 1-0 lead.
The Broncos would answer in their half of the inning. With one out Anthony Bennett would walk. Dwayne White then doubled into left field scoring Bennett. For White that extending his United League leading hitting streak to 24 games. Luany Sanchez would then follow with a single scoring White. Santiago Guerrero would single in his at bat moving Sanchez to 3rd. Matt Lawman would come up and hit a sacrifice fly scoring Sanchez, and giving Laredo a 3-1 lead.
The Colts would tie the game back up in the top of the 4th inning. Aaron Cone would lead off with a single. He would then score on a 2 run home run by Jose Torres, his 4th of the season making the score 3-3.
San Angelo would tack on a few more runs in the top of the 5th inning. With one out Andres Rodriguez would single. Then Aaron Cone connected with a 2 run home run, his 4th of the season. That would give the Colts a 5-3 lead.
The Colts would get another run in the top of the 6th inning. Wyn Diggs walked to start the inning and went to 2nd on a single by Charley Belew. After John Anderson hit into a double play, Tyrone Pendergrass doubled scoring Diggs. After a walk to Bryan Frichter, Andy Schon was taken out of the game for the Broncos. Dan Sausville came in and got the 3rd out to end the inning with the Colts leading 6-3.
Schon went 5 2/3 for the Broncos giving up 6 runs, 5 earned, on 11 hits. He walked 2 batters and struck out 5.
The Broncos would get closer in the bottom of the 7th inning. With one out Steven Wright doubled. He went to 3rd on a groundout by Anthony Bennett and scored on a single by Dwayne White. That would make the score 6-4, San Angelo with the lead.
Rusty Jones would come into the game and pitch a scoreless 8th inning for the Broncos. The 9th inning saw Nathan Crawford come in and he got into some trouble. Aaron Cone would walk to start off the inning. Then with one out Jose Torres singled, and then Wyn Diggs singled to load the bases. Charley Belew would single in Cone. John Anderson would ground into a force out when Ivan Reyes got Torres out at home. Tyrone Pendergrass would then walk knocking a run. That would be all the scoring for the Colts as they led 8-4 going into the bottom of the 9th.
Ryan Mulle started off the 9th inning looking for the 3 inning save. After a Josh Morrison strikeout, Eric Padilla tripled. Steven Wright would then strike out for the 2nd out. Anthony Bennett would then single scoring Padilla. Dwayne White would then single to put runners on 1st and 2nd for Luany Sanchez who represented the tying run. The Colts would bring in their closer Miliade Venas to get the one out save. Venas was able to get Sanchez to ground into a force out as the Broncos fell by a score of 8-5.
The Broncos scored 5 runs on 10 hits and committed 1 error, while the Colts scored 8 runs on 14 hits and committed 1 error.
The Broncos now fall to 18-17 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Friday night when they start a series with the Amarillo Dillas. The two teams will finish their suspended game from June 7th at 7 pm and then play the regularly schedule game right after, which will be a 7 inning game.
