
Broncos can't take advantage of opportunities in loss

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos wasted a great outing by Santo Hernandez as they fell against the San Angelo Colts at Veterans Field by a score of 7-2 on Tuesday night. The Broncos continue their 6 game home stand, as they play the middle game of a 3 game series with the Colts on Wednesday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Broncos got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the 1st inning. Steven Wright led off with a single and went to 2nd on a balk by Colts starter Logan Williamson. Dwayne White would then single scoring Wright and giving the Broncos an early 1-0 lead.
San Angelo would get that run back in the 2nd inning. Aaron Cone led off the inning with a solo home run, his 3rd of the season. That would tie the game at 1.
In the 3rd inning, the Colts would take the lead on a solo home run by Bryan Frichter, his 4th of the season. That would make the score 2-1 in favor of the Colts.
Both starters would stop giving up runs after that. Santo Hernandez for the Broncos, would retire 11 straight batters till Aaron Cone walked to leadoff the 7th inning.
The Colts starter Logan Williamson also pitched very well, as he kept getting himself out of trouble. In the bottom of the 7th inning, Ben Tinius would lead off with a single and go to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Anthony Bennett. Steven Wright would then walk and Williamson would leave the game. Ryan Mulle would come in and get Eric Padilla to hit into a double play to end the threat keeping the score 2-1 in favor of San Angelo.
Santo Hernandez would end up going 8 innings for the Broncos. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. He walked only 1 batter and struck out 8.
The Broncos would threaten again in the bottom of the 8th. With one out Luany Sanchez would walk. Then Santiago Guerrero would single into left field. Sanchez would go to 3rd on the play, and Guerrero tried to get to 2nd on the throw to 3rd base. Guerrero appeared to slide in safely but was called out for the 2nd out of the inning. Matt Lawman would then ground out to end the inning, and the Broncos still trailed by 1 run heading into the 9th inning.
John Smith would come into the game for the Broncos in the 9th. He would give up a single to Jason Crosland, and then walk both Aaron Cone and Jose Torres to load the bases. Rusty Jones would then come into the game, to get out of the huge jam. Jones would walk Wyn Diggs to force in a run. Then Charley Belew, Tryone Pendergrass, John Anderson, and Bryan Frichter would all hit rbi singles. That would extend San Angelo's lead to 7-1.
In the bottom of the 9th inning, Laredo would get back to back walks to Ivan Reyes and Ben Tinius to start off the inning. Then with one out Steven Wright singled to load the bases. Eric Padilla would then single scoring Reyes and keeping the bases loaded. Miliade Venas would then come into the game for the Colts and strike out both Dwayne White and Luany Sanchez, as the Broncos drop the first game of the series by a score of 7-2.
The Broncos scored 2 runs on 8 hits and committed 1 error, while the Colts scored 7 runs on 10 hits and committed 1 error.
The Broncos now fall to 17-16 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Wednesday night for game 2 of a 3 game series against the San Angelo Colts in Laredo at 7:35.
