Kansas City Brigade News Release
Kansas City, MO - Fullback Brian Johnson led the way for the defending ArenaBowl champions with three rushing touchdowns. All three of Johnson's touchdowns came in the first half. San Jose (3-2) limited the Kansas City Brigade (0-4) to only 15 points in the second half.
San Jose quarterback Mark Grieb completed 23 of his 38 passes for a total of 257 yards and one touchdown. Grieb's main target was wide receiver Rodney Wright who pulled in a career-high 14 catches for 165 yards. Wide Receiver Jason Geathers received Greib's only touchdown pass of the night. Geather's touchdown gave a 31-28 lead back to San Jose; the SaberCats would not trail for the remainder of the game.
2007 Rookie of the Year, Charles Frederick, had his best performance of the '08 season. Frederick caught two touchdowns to go along with 94 receiving yards. Quarterback John Fitzgerald filled in for the injured Matt Kohn. Fitzgerald threw three touchdowns but committed just as many turnovers. The Brigade are currently last in the AFL in turnover differential with -10.
The Brigade travel south to take on the Georgia Force on Friday night. San Jose travels to New Orleans to face the surprising VooDoo.
