Kansas City Brigade News Release
KANSAS CITY - Last Friday's 47-34 victory at the Columbus Destroyers officially clinched a playoff berth for the Brigade (9-5). The team is currently the American Conference third seed in the Mitsubishi Motors Drive to ArenaBowl XXI. The Brigade can also clinch a home playoff game with a Los Angeles Avengers loss at the Arizona Rattlers on Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football Monday.
The win also puts the team in line for a potential Central Division title game with the Chicago Rush (10-4) in the season's final week. First, the Brigade must tangle with division foe the Nashville Kats, who make their return appearance to Kansas City for the regular season home finale Saturday, June 16 at 7 p.m. at Kemper Arena.
The 2007 season has proven quite a turnaround for the Brigade after an inaugural 3-13 campaign. In the Arena Football League's 21-year history, only 26 second-year franchises have made the playoffs, including the Brigade. Keep in mind that there are 19 current and 43 former franchises in the league's colorful history.
The previous 25 second-year franchises are 13-24 in 37 playoff games. Only three teams-the 1989 Detroit Drive, 1992 Orlando Predators and 1996 Iowa Barnstormers-advanced to ArenaBowl. The Drive is the only second-year franchise to claim the title, winning ArenaBowl III.
