Kansas City Brigade News Release

Kansas City, Mo. (Jan. 8) - Familiarity is supposed to breed contempt, but not in the case of a man as big as offensive lineman Ed Ta'amu (6-2, 335 lbs., Utah). The rookie has signed with the Brigade, the team announced today, joining a former teammate and head coach on the roster. Ta'amu and wide receiver Charles Frederick were part of the 2006 arenafootball2 champion Spokane Shock, coached by Brigade offensive coordinator Chris Siegfried.

After a short stint with the Utah Blaze prior to the 2006 season, Ta'amu solidified the Shock's offensive line, one that allowed only 11 total sacks during the year. He will compete for a spot on the Brigade's revamped offensive line for 2007, with eight new linemen on the roster as training camp approaches.

Ta'amu was a fourth-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in the 2002 NFL Draft, but he suffered a knee injury and was released by the team. The Houston Texans then acquired Ta'amu, but the same injury prevented him from playing there. He spent two years rehabbing the knee before completing a full season with the Shock.

A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Ta'amu was an Honorable Mention All-American and an all-league co-defensive player of the year as a high school senior. At the University of Utah, Ta'amu was a two-time All-Mountain West Conference selection, starting 20 of 26 games in his final two seasons. As a senior, Ta'amu totaled 123 knockdowns, including a Utes record 25 against Brigham Young.
