Johnstown Tomahawks News Release

PITTSTON, Pa. - Carson Brière's power play goal sealed a 2-1 Johnstown Tomahawks win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights Friday evening at Revolution Ice Centre.

The Knights cracked the 0-0 tie when Davis Pennington's shot from the point bounced behind Tomahawks goalie Carter McPhail for a 1-0 WB/Scranton lead.

In the second period, the Tomahawks would waste little time knotting the score up at 1-1.

Sam Solensky added to his league leading points total with his eighth goal of the season. Cameron Hebert and Hunter Toale assisted on the goal.

Both the Knights and Tomahawks would fire shots on goal but both McPhail and Knights goalie, Zach Stejskal, stood tall in between the pipes.

Midway through the third period, the Tomahawks were afforded a 5-on-3 power play after Wilkes-Barre/Scranton took consecutive penlaties.

Johnstown would take advantage.

Not long into the power play, Carson Brière finished a cross-crease pass from Hebert past Stejskal for a 2-1 Tomahawks lead. Brière's sixth of the season was also assisted by Solensky.

Brière's goal would prove to be the game-winner as McPhail and the Johnstown defense prevent the Knights from tying the score for a Johnstown 2-1 win.

In his fifth win of the season, McPhail stopped 42 of 43 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton shots on goal. In the loss, Stejskal corralled 31 or 33 Tomahawks shots.

Both teams are back in action Saturday afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. faceoff at Revolution Ice Centre
