Newark Bears News Release

Newark Bears shortstop Bridger Hunt has been named Can-Am League "Hitter of the Week" for the week of Monday, May 27, the league announced Monday.

Hunt, a ninth round draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2006, helped the Bears to a 3-3 record this past week, taking two of three games from the defending CanAm Champion Quebec Capitales, before dropping two of three to the first place Rockland Boulders.

Hunt finished the week 15-for-24 (.625), hitting two home runs and driving in seven RBI. Hunt also drew two walks and struck out twice in the six games played.

The Florida-natives .512 batting average finds him atop the Can-Am League leaders in hitting, and his three home runs and 12 RBI have him top-five in the league in both categories.

Through 10 games played this season, Hunt leads Newark in batting average, home runs, RBI, hits (22) and runs scored (12).
