
Bridgeport Falls in Season Finale to Somerset

(Somerset, NJ. - September 21, 2014) - The Bridgeport Bluefish were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 6-5 in Bridgeport's 2014 season finale on Sunday afternoon at TD Bank Ballpark.
The Patriots took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a two-run home run by catcher Adam Donachie. Somerset extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Jake Fox, scoring center fielder Jonny Tucker who led off the inning with a single and took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI sacrifice fly by shortstop Edwin Maysonet.
Bridgeport cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI double by designated hitter Joe Mather and a two-out, two-run single by catcher Luis Rodriguez. But Somerset answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run home run by left fielder Ty Wright to give the hosts a 6-3 lead. The top of the seventh inning saw Bridgeport score a run on a pair of doubles from right fielder Prentice Redman and second baseman Ramon Castro, with Castro's of the RBI variety. With the 'Fish trailing 6-4 in the top of the ninth, pinch hitter D.J. Mitchell led off the inning with a double and came around to score on a one-out RBI single by Castro to bring the score to 6-5. But Somerset's closer Jon Hunton stranded the tying and go-ahead runs on base as he recorded the final two outs of the inning to pick up his 49th save of the season
Matt Iannazzo (4-11) went the distance for Bridgeport in the loss, allowing six runs and five earned runs off seven hits in eight innings of work. Somerset's starting pitcher Josh Lowey (3-0) tossed five scoreless innings in the win, allowing just two hits while striking out three batters.
For Bridgeport offensively, Redman, Castro and Rodriguez each had two hits while Castro & Rodriguez also had two RBI each on the afternoon.
