Wichita Stealth News Release
Wichita, Kan. - The Wichita Stealth announced today that former wide receiver/defensive back Brian Livingston (6-2, 205, Grambling) has signed a contract with the Grand Rapids Rampage of the Arena Football League (AFL). Livingston will be playing for former Stealth head coach and current Rampage head coach Bob Cortese.
"We are very proud of Brian and the opportunity he has been given and we wish him the best," said Stealth operator David Key. "Brian was a great asset to not only our organization but our community as well, and he will always have a place here in Wichita."
Livingston has played in arenafootball2 for three seasons. In 2000 with the Jacksonville Tomcats, he was named to the all-af2 first team as a defensive specialist and runner-up for the league's defensive player of the year award. He finished the 2000 season with a league best 11 interceptions and totaled 115 tackles (60 unassisted) and 31 pass defenses.
In 2002 with the Tomcats, he played in ten games and compiled 50 tackles (31 unassisted), two interceptions, and ten pass defenses.
Livingston played in 14 games for the Stealth in 2003. He began the season as a defensive specialist and then moved to a two-way player in the middle of the season when the Stealth lost some players to injury. Livingston was named ADT Defensive Player of the Week in week #13 for his performance in the Stealth victory over the Arkansas Twisters. In that game, Livingston had nine unassisted tackles, one assisted tackle, two forced fumbles, and three interceptions, one of which was returned 18-yards for a touchdown.
Defensively, Livingston amassed 70 tackles (44 unassisted), four interceptions, and 12 pass defenses. Offensively, Livingston finished the 2003 season with 19 receptions for 184 yards and two touchdowns. He also added eight carries for 15 yards and three touchdowns.
"We are excited to see Brian move on to the next level," said Stealth head coach Sean Ponder. "He is a very gifted athlete and we wish him the best of luck in Grand Rapids. He has proven he is a tremendous player and proved during the season that he can be an effective two-way player."
Livingston becomes the fifth player in Wichita Stealth history to be signed by an Arena Football League team. Jeremy Johnson was the first when he signed with the Buffalo Destroyers after the 2001 af2 season. Others include: Will Sullivan (Arizona Rattlers), Bryan Henderson (Arizona Rattlers), and Ron Lopez (Carolina Cobras).
