Louisville Fire News Release
Louisville Fire head coach Tommy Johnson announced today that former Campbellsville University standout Demetrius Forney (5'10", 288lbs) has been assigned to the Fire by the arenafootball2 league office. Forney will play fullback/linebacker for the Fire next season.
Forney, a former three-time NAIA All-American selection at Campbellsville, will return to the Fire for his second full season. Forney joined the Fire late in the 2002 season as a lineman and moved to the fullback/linebacker position prior to the 2003 season.
"It feels great to be back with the Fire. The fan support here is outstanding, and I like the direction coach Johnson is taking this team," said Forney, "I think our number one goal next season is to win a championship."
In 2003 Forney scored 11 touchdowns for the Fire, 10 rushing and 1 receiving, along with rushing 36 times for 128 yards. Forney made the biggest impact on the defensive side of the ball with 33.5 tackles, including 6.5 tackles for a loss. Forney also recorded 5 sacks in 2003 and had two forced fumbles and a safety.
"Demetrius provides us with a rock solid foundation up front. Bringing him back solidifies the fullback/linebacker position. He is a good leader day in and day out at practice and is dedicated to winning," remarked Johnson.
Forney and the Fire will open the 2004 season in April in Freedom Hall. Season tickets start and $49 and can be purchased by calling (502) 368-0009.
