Brian Jones Named July's Best

DURHAM, N.C. – Elmira catcher and designated hitter Brian Jones was named the Rawlings Player of the Month for July by league statistician SportsTicker Boston on Friday.

Jones, 26, went 37-for-91 (.407) in 25 games during July with 19 runs, 10 doubles, three home runs and 12 runs batted in. He walked 10 times, stole one base, slugged .615 and recorded a .465 on-base percentage while enduring 13 games as catcher. He recorded 13 multi-hit games including a 5-for-6 effort versus Bangor on July 24. His batting average this year now stands at .321.

Jones, who was voted a Northeast League all-star and participated in the game in Québec on July 29, was signed as a nondrafted free agent by Cincinnati out of Newbury (Mass.) College. He played for Single-A Dayton in the Midwest League in 2000 and 2001. After his release he played for Elmira in 2002, hitting .284 with 11 homers, and returned to the Pioneers this year.
