Utica Blue Sox News Release

The Utica Brewers got a great outing by starting pitcher Jorge Pantoja(Alabama State), but squandered several opportunities with runners on base en route to a third straight defeat against visiting Glens Falls, 7-5.

The Golden Eagles broke open a scoreless stalemate between starting pitchers Pantoja and Andy Cheray(Missouri St.) in the top of the fourth, plating runs on an unsuccessful 3-2 fielder's choice attempt hit into by Buddy Putnam(South Florida) and a sacrifice fly by Braxton Martinez(Saint Louis) that scored Bryan Ramirez(UTPA) to give Glens Falls a 2-0 lead.

Glens Falls added another run in the fifth before the Brewers knotted the ballgame at three in the bottom half of the inning. The Brewers landed three of their first four hitters on base before Spencer Mumford(South Florida State) drove home Michael Pierson on a 5-3 groundout. With runners on second and third, Utica's Joseph Gallub drove home the tying runs with one swing of a bat as he belted a two RBI triple to right field to score Ryan Valdes(Florida State) and Chase Livingston(Rhode Island).

With the game tied at three, the teams traded runs in the sixth before the Eagles pulled away with three more for the 7-5 victory. Jared Moore(Kansas State) picked up the win in relief for Glens Falls, while Jordan Brooks(Georgia College) was handed the loss. Pantoja allowed just two hits in five innings for Utica. Offensively, Ramirez led the way for Glens Falls with two runs scored, while K'Shawn Smith(Stetson) doubled twice for the Brewers. Glens Falls improves their league-best record to 19-12.

The Brewers will hit the road for the latter portion of a two-game swing against PGCBL divisional leaders as they face off against PGCBL West leader Watertown for a 7 p.m. first pitch at Duffy Fairgrounds.
