Brent Kallman Returns to Minnesota United

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Central defender and Woodbury-native Brent Kallman continues his career in the Land of 10,000 Lakes by signing a new deal with Minnesota United. Per team and league policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to have re-signed with my hometown club," said Kallman. "I'm thankful that the coaching staff and front office have enough faith in my abilities to keep me in Minnesota black and blue. This organization is on the up and up, and we have the best fans in the NASL. I'm anxious to get back to work with my coaches and teammates on our quest to win championships."

The 25-year-old brings power and pace to United's experienced defense. He has been an asset on attack as well as defense, with a knack for carrying the ball deep into enemy territory to create chances.

"If you've seen Brent, the physicality he brings-there are very few athletes in this game as powerful as he is," said United head coach Carl Craig. "He still has a ways to go as far as his development, but he's first class attitude, excellent athlete and has a load of stuff. I think he needs to play with a bit more confidence, but he's well respected around the area with a massive upside. He can move forward and be a successful player."

Kallman joined the Loons in 2013 after playing four years for Creighton University. He made only one appearance in his first professional season, and was able to tally an assist in his 90 minutes on the pitch. He continued in his role as sporadic starter for United in 2014, making four appearances across all competitions.

In 2015, Kallman saw a greater workload in the center of United's backline. During the Fall Season, he made eight starts to help Minnesota reach the postseason for the fifth time in six years, and netted his first career goal.

United players report for preseason training February 1st and will take part in the Simple Invitational, a preseason tournament in Portland, Oregon starting February 21st. Minnesota will begin the 2016 NASL Season on April 2nd on the road against the Carolina RailHawks, and will have its home opener on April 16th at NSC Stadium in Blaine.
