Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL-The Quad City Mallards today announced that the team has completed a trade with the Flint Generals. Defenseman Brent Currie was acquired by the Mallards in exchange for the rights to defenseman Sean Kotary and forward Chris Gignac. Currie agreed to terms with the Mallards for the 2006-07 season following completion of the trade.

Currie has spent each of the last two seasons with the United Hockey League's Flint Generals. Last year, Currie recorded 14 points (a goal with 13 assists) in 73 games. He also ranked second on the Flint roster in penalty minutes with 156. In 2004-05, Currie tied career highs in points with 17 (two goals and 15 assists) and in penalty minutes (189).

The Sherwood Park, Alberta native has appeared in 418 professional games over seven seasons. He has 82 career points (12 goals with 70 assists) and 962 penalty minutes.

"We are ecstatic to bring Brent to the Quad Cities," said Mallards President Tim Taylor. "His veteran leadership and physical style of play will further solidify our back end. This is a valuable acquisition for the organization."

"Brent has always impressed me as an opponent," said Mallards General Manager and Head Coach Brian Curran. "Jami Yoder played with him in the Central League and spoke very highly of his play. We look for defensemen that will go all out and sacrifice themselves for the team. Brent is that type of player, and we were very fortunate to get him."

Before coming to the United Hockey League, Currie spent five years in the Central Hockey League (formerly the Western Professional Hockey League) with Corpus Christi, Austin, San Angelo, Odessa and Amarillo. During his time in the CHL, Currie appeared in 268 games and recorded 51 points (nine goals and 42 assists). He was a teammate of current Mallard Jami Yoder as a member of the 2003-04 Odessa Jackalopes.

The Mallards have 15 players under contract for 2006-07. Currie joins fellow defensemen Jami Yoder, Andrei Lupandin, Steve MacIntyre, Bryce Charpentier and Marcus Reszka on the 2006-07 roster. Forwards Chad Woollard, Glenn Detulleo, Patrick Nadeau, Sean Starke, Drew Otten, Luke Stauffacher and Jesse Rycroft are also signed for the upcoming season. Jason Tapp will return to tend goal with rookie Scott Gray serving as back-up netminder.
