Brendan Bushy Commits to St. Cloud State University

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Dubuque Fighting Saints defenseman Brendan Bushy announced his verbal commitment to play college hockey at St. Cloud State University on Wednesday. Previously a standout at Thief River Falls High School, Bushy is in his first season with the Fighting Saints and the USHL.

"I'm really, super, super, super excited. I loved it when I visited there," said Bushy. "I fell in love with the team, the coaches and everything that St. Cloud has to offer. It just felt right in my heart."

"Now it's time to get back to playing hockey, and getting going on a good season."

Bushy played his first regular season game with the Saints against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Saturday, and he suited up in five preseason games. Prior to that, he notched 31 points in his final season with Thief River Falls High School, including six goals and 25 assists.

"We are really excited for Brendan," head coach and general manager of the Fighting Saints, Jason Lammers, said. "He earned the opportunity at St. Cloud because of his attitude, work ethic, and commitment to his craft. We are excited to be a part of Brendan's development as he grows into the player and person that he wants to be."

Under the direction of 11th-year head coach Bob Motzko, St. Cloud has cultivated a culture of winning. Last season, St. Cloud finished with 31 wins, which was the most in the past seven seasons.

Bushy and the Fighting Saints will take to home ice for the first time on Opening Night, presented by American Trust on Friday, September 30 at 7:35 p.m. against the Green Bay Gamblers. The first 3,000 fans will receive a magnetic schedule upon entry, thanks to American Trust.
